I can't stand it

The hardest part of volunteering at the Dog Days events
is not being able to take one home.
With four on the floor here at This Old House...
I cannot stretch the limits one dog further or I might find
myself going it alone... lol..

If I had my druthers... Bo would be coming home with me tonight...
2 year old Dane/husky mix, lovable boy, about 80  lbs.
Oh, he has the bluest eye...

Poor Jake was a bit overwhelmed at the Event.. there is an awful lot of
commotion and 100 or so dogs, some barking at any given moment...
We kept him outside the kennel area for much of the time showing him some love..
and a young man who works in a vineyard as come to his rescue...
Jake and his new Dad.

THIS dog got a home :-)

Off to Dog Days... 55 dogs homed yesterday... 50 still waiting ...
Burnetts Country Gardens, Route 85, Salem... if you're local and looking...
Come on Down!

  1. Karen, it's hard to say no to someone needing a loving home. How well I know! I buried Dave on Wednesday and on Sunday Sophie came to live with us bring me to 5 dogs. It was crazy for a year and half but then my 2 oldest died and I went to 3. Even now, I cannot leave the Ridge and the Jack alone together; they are so jealous and will fight to the death. I can't get them to understand I didn't divide my love, I multiplied it.

  2. It takes a very special person to do what you do....we have 3 here and our hearts always want to take in more, but our sensibility tells us we just can't......guess that's why I don't get more involved with our shelter here, other than taken by supplies.....I would be an emotional wreck all the time......so from one animal lover to another, Thank You!!!!!

  7. Way to go, Jake! YAY!

I know what you mean about taking one home! (each time) If I had a place as large as yours, I'd be in big trouble. Down girl!

  8. Karen- It would just break my heart to see one not adopted-sitting there with the longing in the eyes looking for its forever home. I give you a lot of credit. You are a good soul! xo Diana

  10. I'm just catching up, but I fostered a dog this summer from the Little Rock Animal Village --he was a Corgi mix and they had kept him 6 months hoping someone would adopt him. I saw his pic on FB and called CARE for Animals and offered to foster him if they would help me get him adopted. They went out and assessed him and I picked him up. He loved my grandkids and other dogs, but was cat aggressive, so it was a wild 3 days keeping him separated from the cats. They posted a photo of him on FB and right away someone called wanting him! I'm going to do it again, but we have some fencing issues to be taken care of first! I really wish more people would consider fostering. Fostering cats is even easier and they don't fare too well in shelters either. I am home for now- may be retiring early, so I would like to advocate for Spay & Neuter programs in the legislature - Really, something has to be done in the southern states! What kind of animal control laws do y'all have up there and could you share how they were able to get it accomplished?
