New stuff!

When we finally moved into This Old House after the ressurection
was complete.. we bought a new couch and chairs for the "family room".
I was going for a country look because we were in an old house, and truth be told...
when the furniture arrived eight weeks after purchase,
I was a little flustered at the big bold floral gold print I had actually picked out
for the two overstuffed chairs and the red couch was very pretty but not alot of room
for sitting.  It was a -what was I thinking- moment.
Have you ever done that with a major purchase?  ugh.

And you know, when you spend that kind of money
and the man who paid for it is standing next to you in the new family room
asking if you're happy with the new furniture..
well, it's kinda hard to say... I SCREWED UP!!!

So we lived with it.

No one was ever really happy with the arrangement,
and the room got very little use, despite the fact that it is
the most beautiful room in the house.  We all huddled in the mancave,
a small room truly only fit for two-three people comfortably,
because the furniture in there was more casual, comfortable.

Last week the man who pays the big bills in this house
got tired of us all huddled in his mancave and agreed to
go look at sectionals - the kind that would make the family room
more like a family room.  We went.. we looked, we found
and bought a reasonably priced sectional that accomodates a small crowd, hooray!
We all watched a movie together last night sprawled out and comfortable
together, the way a family room oughta be used.

Country, it ain't.
Comfortable, functional, accomodating... it's a beautiful thing.

The old gold chairs are now in our bedroom and they actually look inviting.
The red couch is in storage for when the kids get their own place.

It's all good.

By the way.. we watched Man of Steel last night.. because I have always been
a Superman Fan.  While he wasn't hard to look at and there were many good
actors involved, the movie was nothing but Aliens having tumbling temper tantrums..
a big disappointment in my opinion.

  1. It looks great and very very comfy. I'd like some new furniture but it's way down on the priority list. Actually, there's only one piece I don't like but one always leads to two, right?

  2. Good choice! This looks much more like your personality...you know, because we know each other so well...lol! I do love it though. Looks like a great place to curl up with a good book! My family room is long and narrow and won't accommodate a sectional which would be my first choice.

  3. I said the same thing about many major purchases, especially when someone else tries to convince me of something other than what I have in mind.

It looks great! I think comfort is a major key to not only liking it, but using it.

  4. I like it! I have been kicking around the idea of a sectional for our family room ... but it will require accepting the fact that we must ignore the fireplace in that room. We already ignore it, but a sectional would make it more of a done deal. More room to spread out, more comfy, seems like a sectional is In our future, too. Tell me about yours.

  5. Oh, I love your new furniture and it works! You can make it country with your pillows and throws. Sometimes you have to live with something to see how it works but then you can't take it back! This doesn't sound like a movie for me...I don't like aliens! heehee!

  6. The sectional looks great!

I hated Man of Steel as well. For the very same reasons. Blech! I wanted more of the back story. More of his story.

If I see one more zombie or apocalypse movie I will scream! lol

UGH- One of them was a blue sofa with birds of paradise on it that I finally recovered with off white fabric. yeah...I get it- What fun to have a room that you will actually use now- xo Diana

  12. I wish you could see how badly I need a new couch...wait, no, I'm glad you can't. I would love a comfy sectional as well but it's such a scary purchase. What the heck do you do if you get it home and hate it?? Yikes! Yours looks great though :):)

  16. Very nice! Sectionals have improved so much since the 1950's red, nubby, uncomfortable sectional my parents had -- If you weren't careful, the 3 pieces would separate and you might find yourself on the floor! Next door "C"'s parents had a sectional too and I still remember all that mid century modern furniture and lamps both our homes had! Just goes to show that nothings new in the world and what's been around will come round again! Thankfully, sectionals today are so much more comfy than the old ones. I haven't gotten one yet, but my daughter has one.

  17. Haha I felt that way when I bought my Saab convertible. I live in Ohio. Saab filed bankruptcy literally four hours after I signed the dotted line! Ah! Thankfully Mother Nature took care of my mistake. A freak derecho popped out of nowhere at the end of June 2012 and an oak tree fell on it. I was sad but knew it was for the best. New couch looks great! You can always add some country to it with pillows. I'm seeing alternating red and gold toile pillows. Everyone will throw them on the floor when they sit down, but when you're cleaning and taking pictures it'll make you happy :)

  18. We bought a sectional for our TV room when we moved here in 2003 and have never regretted it!
