Our political system is absolutely ruptured- watching yesterday’s tragedy was heartbreaking on so many levels. I’m still in disbelief that that is indeed our circus- those are the flying monkeys that run our country. I truly feel we the people- Republicans, Democrats, left and right, are largely not being represented by those who stand for who we actually are as a country. The blame for what our system of governance has become lies all over the spectrum, and that's largely why I am an independent.
As for Br*tt K*vanaugh, he is clearly emotionally unfit for a seat on the Supreme Court, whether he is guilty of the sexual assault he’s accused of or not. Funny how the people who are witnesses to the supposed act aren’t fit enough to testify. Would that have flown if it were a Democrat defendant? Hell no. Did anyone come away from her testimony thinking she was lying? How many times did he say he likes beer? His own yearbook reflects his attitude at that time , and classmates have come out saying he’s lying about other things. All that screaming and crying and spitting - While you might be a Hillary hater, and I was not a fan, - under 11 hours of scrutiny before the same committee being accused of murdering four men, not once did she behave like the raging lunatic Kavanaugh became. And she did not murder those four men, whether you’ll interpret that mess that way yourself. Me thinks he does protest too much. In case you didn’t know- he was playing to all beer drinking male voters who may have been “rowdy” in their young years- , right from the Trump play book.
As for the alleged victim- Who would put themselves in that position if they didn’t believe they were telling the truth? Nothing to gain! And a lot to lose. Starting with the polygraph experience! So tired of every woman who stands up for themselves being dismissed BY OTHER WOMEN and especially by that disgusting administration and their hypocrisy when trying to undermine the opposing party over the years- No wonder most don’t report it! L Gr*ham’s own words for his book regarding sexual assault victims apparently didn’t apply this time- of course! Hypocrite. All of it, broken.
Believe people when they tell you who they are.
Kavanaugh was being Trumpian to impress the man who could pull his nomination. Lindsey Graham was just being a ginned up version of himself and hoping to please the King and replace Jeff Sessions. White male elitist privilege was on full display in all its entitled fury. Yesterday was not our finest hour and what comes next may be worse. Whatever one thinks about the dignified testimony of Dr. Ford, Kavanaugh's testimony was an indication of a temperament not fit for the Supreme Court.

I hope the FBI investigation will take place and they will be thorough. This man could still be on the Supreme Court when my granddaughters who are babies are grown.
Sickening and so very sad.
Will men in power ever respect women? Dr. Ford has everything to lose and nothing to gain.

After reading your post and the comments I feel I must respond with a different perspective. What has happened in America and the rule of law that states innocent until proven guilty? You've all convicted this man who has had an upstanding reputation his whole life, because if you believe her without any proof you have convicted him. And tell me this, which one of you or your husbands, if married, wouldn't be angry or emotional if you had gone through what he and his family did this past week? All of the vile and disgusting e-mails and who knows what else they have gone through. His young daughter has more compassion in her little finger for Ms. Ford when she asked to pray her than you have for him. I won't go into how I feel about Ms. Ford, but you did ask a question in your post about what's in it for her? How does $700K (and probably growing) in her Go-Fund Me account sound. Nice chunk of change. You believe her without any proof and have convicted him in this kangaroo court. And ask yourselves one question but first put your hatred of Trump aside-is THIS the kind of justice you would want for yourself or someone in your family? I am saddened and angry by what is happing to this man and his family and what has become of our justice system. The Dems said they would stop at nothing to make sure BK wouldn't get confirmed and this should give you pause when you really think about it.
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous, Kavanaugh has been a political operative for years. He worked for Ken Starr and was happy to propose very sexually explicit questions to be asked of Monica Lewinsky. They were thought too over the top to be used. He was also one of the lawyers sent to Florida to call for a stop to the Gore/Bush vote recount. Some of his work in the Bush White House has not been turned over to the judiciary committee because it is concerned with the okaying of torture. He has lied to this committee before about stolen Democratic emails when he was appointed to the 12th District Federal Court, and he has certainly lied about his drinking and the terms in his high school year book. He also never asked that an FBI investigation clear his name. You saw for yourself that he would not call for that. You also saw him lash out against Democrats and the Clintons displaying an entirely non judicial partisan temperament. The Friday solution for a one week FBI investigation into some of the accusations should set a clearer stage for the full Senate vote. The GOP wanted to rush this through assuming his innocence without investigation or seemingly without caring one way or another. The Supreme Court should have members of the highest integrity and of temperate disposition. We are entitled to at least that. We do hope we are innocent until proven guilty therefore the FBI. This is not a court of law, it is a hearing to determine fitness for a life time appointment to the highest court in the land.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous - respectful opposing views are always welcome. I have not assumed his guilt - My opinion is formed by his own actions and history. I said above ***whether he's guilty or not***, his demeanor in that hearing was atrocious and behavior certainly not un -political, unbiased, given his rage filled rant aimed at Democrats and the Clinton, etc. etc. That is what the role of a judge is supposed to entail - unbiased, non politically motivated mediation - and he just proved he is not capable. Many question that now that they've seen what he had to say. I understand anger is natural if wrongly accused. Of all people, a JUDGE such as BK should understand the term DUE PROCESS - of which this woman is owed. I don't think she's lying, I saw her as totally belieable and credible - as did most others, including republicans. Does she have the right young man? Only she and he know for sure, but I believe SHE believes she does, especially because of what she has and is and will go through as the accuser. Just as you don't believe he's guilty, I believe she's telling what she believes is the truth. He is not and never has been a choir boy. He lied just the other day in that hearing as to the meaning of certain terms in his yearbook and tried to say perhaps his words were changed some by yearbook staff. Have you ever worked on a yearbook? I have. NO ONE changes another's wording in their yearbook. It's yearbook 101. That crying screaming spitting sniveling outrage was obnoxious in that hearing, slamming Democrats as if Republican's haven't been major obstructionists spreading lie after conspiracy theory for the past 8 Obama years, with our own President continuing to do so as we type this. The holier than thou rants are getting real old. First let's kill all the hypocrisy. BK mentioning his daughter wanting to pray for the accuser was a pathetic play to people's emotions, and your reaction to it is an example of just that works. Are you so moved when Chelsea Clinton stands up for truth or women everywhere? It's an honest question - are you tainted by the love and loyatly you have for the Republican party. Not trying to be rude here - I think that loyatly on both sides of the isles doesn't always allow us to see the forest for the trees.
