When Words Become Weapons

Words that have been weaponized by people in power who want to see a divided nation- Liberal, democrat, republican, conservative republican, immigrant.
Look up the actual definitions for each. All goals for a healthy society- necessary components for balance. Every one of our lives have been enriched in some way by various policies pushed through by any one of the above referenced affiliations. Each has its strengths and weaknesses- Indeed there have been fails as well, as there always will be with so many things at stake. That’s why it’s so important for any healthy functioning society to work through differences for common gain.
We’ve fallen so far away from that. Yes, political figures are partly to blame, but Some actually have good intentions, and shame on all of us for feeding off the greed of those who don’t. We are better than this. So I’m asking anyone who bothers to read my posts, no matter what your political affiliation, to stop spreading hate. Stop fueling division. Someone who may have saved your ass during a crisis may be of the very party you mock. Customers who support your small local business, The teacher that protected your kid from a bully? Ditto. The cop who came to your rescue? The firefighter, the babysitter, the guy who removes your trash.
Have your beliefs, but research them and leave the hate out of them. If you call yourself religious but do not act with kindness, compassion or empathy , you need to find a new religion or give it up entirely- because that’s just a hypocrite.
With that said, I’m getting off this particular soapbox. I hope someday the tide will turn in this country to stick with facts and civility as we tackle our many problems- what we have become is truly heartbreaking, and we will be our own demise if we don’t wake the fuck up.

  1. Both people who terrorized the nation this past week lived on rage, a rage stoked by websites, twitter, hate radio, and ridiculous conspiracy theories. Being human, we need opposing views, one side seldom has the whole picture right. The more liberal among us do need the balance of classical conservative thought.Good policy in the past was seldom the work of just one party. We are devolving into a banana republic.
To those who get up every morning without having a dose of hate with their coffee, and that is most of us, do what you can for our ailing republic next Tuesday. Vote for the people that will work on our real issues and are by temperament willing to build consensus in seeking solutions. That is who we need representing us. Listen to your candidates, are they telling you to hate and fear "the other" or seeking to build a better tomorrow for all of us.
As the song says "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me..."

  4. Yes, you are right. We all need to look within ourselves and come to the best conclusion possible. We cannot know what is in another's heart including those who are in power these days. Reading between the lines doesn't always help.

I see your mom and I are alike in reiterating the words to that beautiful song.

  5. Our country more so than others is an entire land of immigrants and their descendants including the ass hat 45. This nation needs the very best education for ALL in order to resolve many of these issues. Poorly educated folks can be easily swayed, but teaching from an early age to investigate, question, research and above all to learn from truth and facts will go a long way toward peace and understanding .
We spend far less than most industrialized nations on the two most important issues. Health and Education yet spend billions on new phones, 50,000 dollar cars etc
Another line" When will we ever learn?"

I voted as soon as i got home from CA. The location was packed-
