Under normal circumstances they don’t like each other- they argue over who's the boss, they don't always perceive the same things as dangerous or even agree on who's a friend and who's a foe. They don't share well with each other, but somehow the storms change things. Butt to Butt- they weather those storms and find common ground, they find comfort in each other. We could learn a few things from dogs.....
Something I took for granted for all these years- Democracy. I never realized how truly fragile it is, and at any point in history, what we depend on can come crumbling down. Maybe a dividing, lying, egotistical blowhard like Tr*mp had to happen in order to flush out all the corruption, the hypocricies, the bigotry, racism and blind allegiances that clearly still course through the veins of our republic. Maybe all the shortsightedness on both sides of the aisle and the less than stellar motives of some of the extremists, both left and right, needed to be exposed in order to eventually heal what is clearly very broken.
I'm encouraged by the good things that are coming of this collosal mess, people are voting, for one thing. Women are coming forth and getting elected at record rate - Republicans and Democrats are questioning some of the failings of their own parties and striving for something better. In many places We the People are being heard. Amen... and Amen again.
Last night we had our first real snow fall -
This morning it's all pretty wet, with rain in the forecast.
The green thing in the upper right hand corner is the umbrella I was using to shield me from the wind and drizzle as I fed horses and chickens. That's the thing about these adorable farm animals. Doesn't matter the weather, they need their feed. My morning commute .....
Opie, not particularly fond of selfies, waits impatiently for grain.
Fiona says Good Morning! (actually, she's clucking " It's cold - where's my F-ing oatmeal" . Yep, she swears - I'm a bad influence, I know it. )
I've started the holiday decorating inside - not too christmas-y yet because we're hosting Thanksgiving dinner here. Nothing says disrespect for the Thankful holiday like Christmas up in your face before you've even carved the bird.
Miss Sally's favorite perch .....
Usually I have a coffee cake or brownies or cookies in the glass cake stand on the kitchen island. We're all trying to watch our calorie intake ( we're watching it, alright... as it goes in our mouths....) and for some reason I believe we'll eat less crap if it comes in small wrapped packages... ha ha ha... ha.
Anyway... a few chuckles for you on this dreary grey New England day....
I hope all is well in your neck o'the woods -
Till soon....
Love the barnwood interior in your house. Its gorgeous. I sure hope something good can come from all this chaos and anger. Don't envy you having the critter chores during the winter time.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Karen. Only YOU would have a chicken that said the F word! lol....
ReplyDeleteI, too, am hoping that Americans come together as only Americans can and move forward to some peaceful resolutions.
Enjoy your wintery days-love the boys snuggled together.
Great picture of you!!!
Have a good weekend- xo Diana
It has been decades since I had to go out in, drive in, or walk on, ice and snow. I miss it. I don't miss it.I saw a young woman on tv this morning being interviewed and wham she slammed back down on the ice. Nope I don't miss that. Broken hips would not be good.
ReplyDeleteI've put out all my greens so far but the tree won't go up until after Thanksgiving. The greens help me to imagine a "winter" even if folks go swimming here some Thanksgivings. For the first time in 64 years I will not be having turkey. Gonna roast a chicken for little ole me but still make my favorite sides. Since we're deep frying a bird during the Christmas holidays I simply could not bear two this close together! The kids invited me down to their freindsgiving but I just don't want to do the drive again so soon. Besides i see them here in less than a month.
Happy thankful day- there is still so much to be thankful for. Don't remember ever seeing that fireplace view before? Stunning
The best thing for your cake stand is something made with whole wheat flour and/or oatmeal. Not too tasty, you know. So you only take one and not one, then another and another. It would take me under a minute to inhale the contents in your photo. OTOH, I always say that if you're going to eat crap, eat homemade crap (hence homemade oreos....).
ReplyDeleteI am appalled by the uninhibited racism and sexism lately, even by people I'd never dreamed would say such things. It's sobering. At the same time, we are facing a huge strike tomorrow by the "yellow vests"--the reflective vests you're required to don if your car has broken down. They are upset about the price of gas here. There are a number of reasons it has gone up: the euro is down against the dollar (for reasons that are not very good for the U.S.--higher debt, higher interest rates), and since the price of oil is in dollars, that means that in Europe we aren't seeing the effects of the drop in global oil prices. Then there's the diesel scam--VW and others swore they had figured out how to capture all the garbage diesel spews out so their engines don't pollute. The EU bought it, and in most countries diesel has been a small fraction of the cost of unleaded gas, and many drivers switched to diesel cars. Even without all that, diesel does get about 30% better mileage than unleaded. Anyway, the clean diesel thing was fake, the government slapped on a carbon tax (because we want to breathe) and now people are going into the streets. I wonder, which thing are they against--clean air? global markets? They want the government to do something, but the answer they want (drive as much as you want, honey, we'll cut the price at the pump) isn't possible, as if driving more isn't going to pollute, or as if global prices are going to budge because France makes a stink.
For crying out loud.
Good luck with your chickens and the snow. Tonight, at 8:30 p.m., I heard crickets. Here, it's way too warm.
I am very surprised at how many mean people have come to the surface in the past two years! Where have they been hiding all this time? I am shocked at how many white people are caught on camera berating black people! A black female professor in a Dunkin Donuts coffee shop in Virginia, confronted because she plugged into the wifi before she bought a coffee, a little black girl turned in for selling water on the street, the list goes on and on. The black security guard (with SECURITY on his hat)shot to death by a police officer, while he was holding down a suspected shooter...unbelievable. Don't even get me started on all the shootings. What the hell is going on? All I can say...is "shit rolls downhill" and the biggest pile is running the country.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note? I have kitties that do the same thing as Sally...we call them cushion crushers...lol!
I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season...I am sure gonna try to have one...regardless of the mess this country is in.
Your home is so beautiful -- that fireplace! Wow. and it looks cozy and warm and so comfortable and lovely! Sally sure thinks so!
ReplyDeleteYes, I am a believer that one should "respect the bird" and so Christmas will come out Friday. That last anxiety graphic is perfection! I'm slowly (and I mean slowly because I'm in the middle of art sale weekend) taking down extra fallish things so on Friday next week I can start with a relatively clean slate and some pretty lights might go up before because they are timeless.
But yes, a bit of a respite with the election. Now I'm holding my breath about Mueller, the lame duck session and all. Fingers are crossed that the good juju will hold till 2020 when we can turn the whole lot over.
Your house suits that weather! I laughed when I saw your chicken picture. I could pick up one of the hens like that, but there's no way a rooster would let me do it! Your fireplace is just amazing!!! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteLike the doggie butt to butt stormy, snowy day pic . . .
ReplyDeleteA “let’s all get along” look . . .
I think we could all “get along” these days if we were prompted by that kind of mantra . . .
Instead, it is a daily deluge of yuck!
I am sooooo tired of it all . . .
Riding on some post election hope though and holding on . . .
I too love your barn posts, comfy home charm.
Sitting near that fireplace, “butt to butt” . . . would be Thanksgiving . . .
And then there is Friday and bring on the lights and green . .
Happy day cooking, baking, family, Thanksgiving . . .
Stay warm and cozy . . .
My animals curse too or at least that's what it sometimes looks like when they're not happy with me lol My Bubba sits on the back cushions of everything too.
ReplyDeleteYour fireplace is gorgeous! And I'm so jealous of your snow. We usually get a few flakes right before Thanksgiving, but right now they're just predicting a little rain. We shall see ;)

Your home is just gorgeous, so warm and cozy looking! WE got our first real snow Thursday night also, a whole foot of it! Tonight we are due storm number 2, possibly 6 inches. Winter is here! I have also started decorating, but not full on yet, until next Friday. I have added small trees but no ornaments, just twinkling lights for now. They may or may not stay that way. Most of the pumpkins are gone, except for the one in the kitchen that says "Thankful Grateful Blessed" - it sits between two turkey votive holders and has to stay until after Thanksgiving, even though there's a small lit tree just inches away!! :) Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeletelove the butt to butt kids playing well. agree 100 pecent with the state of our union and am horrified at how our country has become.
